Operationally, cyclinoften is not fixed, but two common interpretations emerge. One defines it as the cycle frequency, f, equal to the number of complete cycles observed divided by the observation window. A second uses spectral analysis, where a high concentration of power at nonzero frequencies signals a cyclinoften system. In practice, thresholds vary by application.

Applications include time-series analysis, signal processing, and monitoring of periodic phenomena in economics, ecology, and biology.
