Cyberjaya

Cyberjaya is a town and planned city in the Sepang District of Selangor, Malaysia. Located about 25 kilometers southwest of central Kuala Lumpur and adjacent to the federal administrative capital Putrajaya, it was developed as part of the Multimedia Super Corridor to become Malaysia’s premier information technology and media hub.

Established in the late 1990s, Cyberjaya was designed as a mixed-use city with an emphasis on science, technology, and innovation. The master plan incorporates residential neighborhoods, office parks, a central park, and water features, with a focus on modern telecommunications infrastructure and sustainable development.

Development and planning are overseen by Cyberview Sdn Bhd, a government-backed company under the Ministry of Communications and Digital. The city hosts numerous MSC-status companies, data centers, IT services, and research facilities, and includes campuses for private universities such as Multimedia University (MMU) and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

Educational and research facilities, together with a growing number of business services and start-ups, position Cyberjaya as a core component of Malaysia’s digital economy. The city is marketed as a commercial and educational hub with planned residential districts to support longer-term growth.

The name Cyberjaya blends “cyber” with “jaya” (Malay for victory), reflecting its role as a high-technology district. Since its inception, Cyberjaya has evolved from a government-led planned development into a mature technology and innovation hub near the nation’s capital, continuing to attract firms, institutions, and talent.
