Csontakadályozás is a Hungarian term that translates to "bone obstruction" or "bone blockage." It refers to a condition where a foreign object, most commonly a bone fragment from food, becomes lodged in the digestive tract, typically the esophagus or stomach. This can cause discomfort, pain, difficulty swallowing, and in severe cases, may lead to complications such as perforation or obstruction.

The incidence of csontakadályozás is more frequent when consuming meals containing small, sharp bone fragments, such as fish bones or small bird bones. Individuals with pre-existing digestive issues or those who eat quickly without thorough chewing may be at a higher risk. Symptoms can vary in intensity and may include a sensation of something stuck in the throat, chest pain, gagging, or vomiting.

Diagnosis usually involves a physical examination, a review of the patient's symptoms, and often imaging techniques like X-rays or endoscopy to visualize the foreign body. Treatment depends on the location and size of the obstruction. Small, accessible fragments may be removed endoscopically. In more severe or complicated cases, surgical intervention might be necessary. Prevention primarily involves being mindful when consuming foods containing bones and ensuring thorough chewing.
