Csiszolhatóság

Csiszolhatóság is a Hungarian concept that refers to the residual value of an asset after it has reached the end of its useful life. In economic and accounting contexts it is understood as the portion of a product or piece of equipment that can be recovered through resale, recycling or other secondary markets. The term is most frequently used when evaluating capital expenditures, industrial equipment, vehicles or other durable goods.

The calculation of csiszolhatóság involves estimating the fair market price that can be obtained by selling the asset in a second‑hand condition. This requires consideration of depreciation, wear and tear, technological obsolescence and prevailing market demand. In many industries the residual value is expressed as a percentage of the original purchase price. For example, a company might assume a 15 % csiszolhatóság for a manufacturing machine that costs 100,000 HUF, translating into a recoverable amount of 15,000 HUF at the end of the asset’s useful period.

Accounting standards in Hungary, such as the Hungarian Accounting Standards (HAVL), require that cash‑flows and depreciation schedules reflect csiszolhatóság to produce a realistic measure of net book value. When projected cash flows in valuation models are discounted, the salvage value is added at the end of the projection period. This adds clarity for investors, financial analysts and managers planning capital replacement.

In addition to financial reporting, csiszolhatóság influences procurement decisions. Products with higher resale value tend to be preferred in capital budgeting and have lower total cost of ownership. In practice, many firms offer extended warranties or trade‑in programs that rely on the underlying csiszolhatóság of the equipment. The concept thus forms a bridge between market economics, asset management and environmental sustainability, as the recycling of components often contributes to the residual value of a product.
