Common forms include data verification (checking the accuracy of entries against reliable sources), process verification (ensuring steps are performed according to procedures), and identity or compliance verification (confirming identity, eligibility, or regulatory compliance). In software and information technology, comprovacions are part of verification and validation activities: unit and integration tests, input validation, and automated checks that detect errors before deployment.

Procedures typically involve defining objectives, collecting or generating evidence, performing checks, recording findings, and taking corrective actions if discrepancies are found. They may use sampling, reconciliation, or audits as techniques.

Applications span finance (invoice verification, double-entry bookkeeping), manufacturing (quality control checks), logistics (inventory verification), and public administration (document authentication, eligibility screening). Limitations include sampling bias, measurement error, and the possibility of undiscovered discrepancies; therefore, comprovacions are usually complemented by independent reviews and ongoing monitoring.
