Comospecific

Comospecific is a rarely used term in biology and ecology, applied as a neologism to describe phenomena that involve more than one species in a shared or integrated context. It has no universally accepted definition and is not part of standard taxonomic glossaries, so its meaning varies by author.

In one usage, comospecific denotes an interspecific assembly that functions as a cohesive ecological unit, in which two or more species contribute to a common role or process and exhibit a high degree of interdependence. In another sense, the term is used hypothetically or descriptively to refer to a mosaic or composite organism envisioned as the product of close developmental or ecological integration of distinct species. A third usage, less common and often informal, arises through confusion with conspecific, the term for individuals of the same species, or with cospecific in specific datasets.

Because of the ambiguity, authors who use comospecific typically define their intended meaning at the outset and distinguish it from related terms such as conspecific (same species), heterospecific (different species), symbiosis, and mutualism. The term has found limited traction in niche discussions, theoretical models, and speculative literature, but it is not widely adopted as a formal category.
