Clusiidae

Clusiidae is a family of beetles belonging to the superfamily Cucujoidea. The family is characterized by its small to medium-sized members, with a body length ranging from 1 to 10 millimeters. Clusiidae are typically found in tropical and subtropical regions, with a few species occurring in temperate areas. They are often associated with decaying plant material and are known to feed on fungi, bacteria, and other microorganisms.

The family Clusiidae is divided into two subfamilies: Clusiinae and Dorytominae. Clusiinae is the larger subfamily, with over 1,000 described species, while Dorytominae contains around 150 species. Both subfamilies share similar characteristics, such as a smooth and shiny elytra, a short and broad body, and a reduced number of legs.

Clusiidae are of interest to entomologists and mycologists due to their role in the decomposition process of organic matter. They play a crucial role in the nutrient cycle by breaking down dead plant material and releasing nutrients back into the soil.
