Clicquot refers primarily to Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, a historic champagne house based in Reims, France, and to the Clicquot family name associated with the business. The house traces its origins to 1772 when Philippe Clicquot established a wine business in Reims. In 1798 Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin married François Clicquot; after his death in 1805 she became widow, took charge of the firm, and built it into a leading global brand.
