Chobits

Chobits is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by the CLAMP collective. It was serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Databooks and later Monthly Shonen Magazine from 2000 to 2005. The story was adapted into a 26-episode anime television series by Madhouse, which aired in Japan from April to September 2002. A two-episode OVA, Chobits: Chibi Chibi Chits, was released in 2003.

The narrative centers on Hideki Motosuwa, a kind but struggling student who moves to Tokyo to prepare for university entrance exams. His limited financial resources make it impossible for him to afford a Persocom, a sophisticated humanoid computer that has become commonplace. One evening, Hideki finds a beautiful girl who appears to be a Persocom in his garbage. He takes her home and discovers she can only say "Chi," leading him to name her Chi. Hideki soon learns that Chi is an enigmatic and powerful Persocom with an unknown purpose and origin.

The series explores themes of human-computer interaction, the nature of consciousness, loneliness, and the definition of love in a society increasingly reliant on artificial beings. As Hideki tries to uncover Chi's past and teach her about the world, he encounters various characters and situations that highlight the evolving relationship between humans and Persocoms, and the potential emotional complexities that arise from it. The manga and anime explore both the benefits and potential dangers of advanced AI and its integration into daily life.
