Cher

Cherilyn Sarkisian, known professionally as Cher, is an American singer, actress, and entertainer. Born May 20, 1946, in El Centro, California, she has achieved longevity across music, film, and television, making her a cultural icon of the 20th and 21st centuries.

She rose to fame in the 1960s as part of the duo Sonny & Cher, whose hit "I Got You Babe" helped launch a television variety show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, that ran in the early 1970s. The couple divorced in 1975, after which Cher pursued a solo career.

As a solo artist, she released successful albums and singles, and achieved a late-1990s comeback with the dance hit "Believe," widely noted for its use of Auto-Tune. She has won an Academy Award for Best Actress for Moonstruck (1987) and has earned multiple Golden Globes and Grammys.
