Checkerpieces
Checkerpieces, also known as checkers or draughtsmen, are the playing pieces used in the board game of checkers, also known as draughts. Typically, checkerpieces are round, flat discs, though some variations may exist in different regions or editions of the game. They are usually made of wood, plastic, or sometimes bone. The game is played with two sets of checkerpieces, distinguished by color, most commonly black and white, or red and black. Each player starts with a set number of checkerpieces, typically twelve, arranged on a checkered board. The objective of the game involves moving these pieces across the board to capture the opponent's pieces. The movement and capture rules vary slightly depending on the specific version of checkers being played, such as English draughts or international draughts. A key aspect of the game is the promotion of a checkerpiece to a "king" or "crowned" piece, which usually grants it enhanced movement abilities. Checkerpieces are fundamental to the gameplay of checkers, serving as the agents through which players execute their strategies and attempt to win the game.
