Chasermoving is a term used in chess to describe a sustained pursuit of an opponent's king or key pieces through coordinated piece activity intended to tighten control of the board and convert pressure into a winning advantage. In practice, a chaser leverages tempo, space, and piece harmony to limit escape squares and create decisive threats.

Origin and usage: The expression appears in online chess commentary and puzzle discussions from the 2010s, though it is not a formally standardized term. It is often described as a king-hunt or chase sequence, and is sometimes used interchangeably with related ideas such as netting motifs or attack patterns aimed at the king.

Techniques: A typical chasermoving plan centers on coordinating major and minor pieces to encircle the king. Common motifs include placing a rook on an open file, using diagonals to seal escape routes, and bringing a knight to sensitive squares. Forcing moves, pawn advances, and decoys create tempo and restrict defenses.

Example: In a middlegame with White aiming at Black’s exposed king, White might deploy Re7, Bf1–b5, and Qh5 to trap the king. After a sequence of checks and forced replies, Black’s mobility is squeezed, enabling material gain or a mating net.

Evaluation: Chasermoving is situational and requires precise calculation. It is most effective when the king is exposed or when pieces can be brought efficiently without neglecting defense. Critics note that chasing without a clear plan can backfire if overextended.
