ChargeNets

ChargeNets is a proposed wireless electric vehicle charging system that aims to provide a continuous and convenient charging experience. The core concept involves embedding charging coils beneath roadways, creating a network of "charging nets" that can replenish EV batteries as vehicles drive over them. This technology seeks to overcome the limitations of current charging infrastructure, such as the need for dedicated charging stations and the time spent waiting for a vehicle to charge.

The system typically involves inductive charging technology, similar to that used in some smartphones, but scaled up for automotive applications. Charging coils are installed in the road surface, and compatible electric vehicles are equipped with receiving coils underneath. When a vehicle with a receiver passes over an energized charging coil, power is transferred wirelessly to the vehicle's battery. The goal is to enable charging while driving, effectively eliminating range anxiety and reducing the reliance on traditional charging infrastructure.

Several benefits are associated with ChargeNets, including enhanced convenience for EV owners, potential for smaller vehicle battery sizes due to constant replenishment, and the possibility of creating infrastructure that is less visually obtrusive than current charging stations. Challenges remain in terms of cost-effectiveness of installation, energy efficiency of wireless power transfer over distance, and the development of standardized technologies to ensure interoperability between different vehicle manufacturers and charging network providers.
