Characteristicsphonology

Characteristicsphonology is a field within linguistics that studies the characteristic patterns and organizing principles of phonological systems in human languages. It examines how speech sounds are categorized into phonemes and allophones, how contrasts are maintained, and how these elements interact with phonotactics, syllable structure, and prosody. While the term characteristicsphonology is not widely used in published literature, it can be understood as a focus on the defining features that differentiate phonologies across languages and through time.
