Candidalajien

Candidalajien refers to species within the genus Candida. These are a group of yeasts, which are a type of fungus. Many species of Candida are part of the normal flora found on the skin and mucous membranes of humans and other animals. This means they typically live on or in a host without causing harm. However, under certain conditions, some Candida species can become opportunistic pathogens. This means they can cause infections when the host's immune system is weakened, or when the natural balance of microorganisms is disrupted.

The most common and well-known species is Candida albicans. This yeast is a frequent cause of candidiasis, commonly known as a yeast infection. Infections can range from superficial, affecting the skin, mouth (oral thrush), or vagina, to more serious systemic infections that can spread throughout the body. Factors that can increase the risk of candidal infections include the use of antibiotics, which can reduce the number of beneficial bacteria that keep Candida in check, immunosuppression due to illness or medication, diabetes, and hormonal changes. Diagnosis of candidal infections typically involves microscopic examination of samples, fungal cultures, or molecular methods. Treatment usually involves antifungal medications, with the choice of drug depending on the site and severity of the infection.
