CYP1A2n

CYP1A2n is a designation that appears in a limited set of sources to refer to a putative isoform or variant of the human cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP1A2. The standard CYP1A2 enzyme, part of the cytochrome P450 1A subfamily, is a hepatic monooxygenase that metabolizes a variety of endogenous and xenobiotic substrates, including caffeine, theophylline, and several clinically important drugs. Activity of CYP1A2 varies considerably among individuals, influenced by genetic polymorphisms in the CYP1A2 gene as well as environmental factors such as smoking, diet, and exposure to certain inducers or inhibitors.

The status of CYP1A2n in major pharmacogenomics and enzymology resources is not well established. It is not universally listed as an official allele or transcript in standard databases, and some mentions may reflect proposed splice variants, rare alleles, or misannotations rather than a distinct, independently characterized enzyme. Consequently, there is no consensus on its expression pattern, substrate range, kinetic properties, or clinical relevance.

If CYP1A2n corresponds to a real but poorly characterized variant, it would be expected to share the general features of CYP1A2 as a heme-thiolate monooxygenase with similar tissue distribution, but it could differ in expression level, catalytic efficiency, or inducibility.
