CTConebeam

CTConebeam refers to Cone Beam Computed Tomography, a medical imaging technique. It uses a cone-shaped X-ray beam that rotates around the patient to acquire a 3D dataset. This contrasts with conventional CT scans that use a fan-shaped beam and acquire data slice by slice. The rotational nature of the cone beam allows for a complete scan in a single rotation, typically taking seconds to minutes.

The data acquired by CTConebeam is then reconstructed into a 3D volumetric image. This allows for detailed visualization of anatomical structures in three dimensions, including bone, soft tissues, and nerves. The technology offers higher spatial resolution compared to conventional CT, particularly for imaging bony structures. This makes it valuable for diagnosing and planning treatments in various medical fields.

Applications of CTConebeam are widespread. In dentistry, it is extensively used for evaluating impacted teeth, planning dental implant placement, diagnosing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and assessing orthodontic issues. In otolaryngology (ENT), it is employed to examine the paranasal sinuses, the temporal bone, and the airways. Orthopedics also utilizes CTConebeam for imaging small joints and complex fractures.

A key advantage of CTConebeam is its reduced radiation dose compared to conventional CT scans, although the exact dose can vary depending on the specific scanner and protocol used. The shorter scan times also contribute to patient comfort and reduce the likelihood of motion artifacts. However, it is important to note that CTConebeam is generally less effective than conventional CT for visualizing fine soft tissue details.
