Cremediated is an ad hoc term used to describe remediation approaches that incorporate cremation-like high-temperature treatment as a core step in reducing environmental contaminants. The word blends cremation and remediation and is typically encountered in speculative, experimental, or policy discussions rather than mainstream practice. It refers to methods where organic and some inorganic contaminants are broken down by elevated temperatures, followed by management of residuals such as ash and scrubber byproducts.

In concept, cremediation involves bringing contaminated material—such as hazardous biomass, soil with organic pollutants, or infectious waste—to sufficiently high temperatures to destroy contaminants. Emissions are then treated with air pollution control devices, and resulting residues are stabilized or disposed of in accordance with regulatory requirements. The approach emphasizes rapid reduction of contaminant load and pathogen inactivation, but it also raises concerns about energy use, emissions of combustion-related pollutants, and handling of metal-containing ash.

Applications are largely exploratory and context-dependent. Potential uses include rapid treatment of contaminated biomass, dead stock in agricultural settings, or certain niche industrial wastes where conventional thermal treatment is impractical. Cultural, ethical, and regulatory considerations frequently influence whether cremediation is acceptable or permissible in a given jurisdiction.

Environmental and public health relevance centers on the trade-offs between effective contaminant destruction and potential secondary impacts, such as toxic emissions and residue management.
