CPUgebundenheit, often translated as CPU-bound or processor-bound, describes a situation in computing where the performance of a program or system is primarily limited by the speed and capacity of its central processing unit (CPU). When a task is CPUgebunden, the CPU is working at or near its maximum capacity, and any other components, such as memory or disk drives, have spare capacity. This means that even if these other components were faster, the overall execution time of the task would not significantly improve because the CPU is the bottleneck.
