COsensor

COsensor refers to a device or component designed to detect and measure the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) in the surrounding environment. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and poisonous gas produced by the incomplete combustion of carbon-containing fuels.

These sensors are crucial for safety in various settings, including homes, vehicles, and industrial facilities. In residential areas, CO sensors are often integrated into carbon monoxide alarms, which emit an audible warning when CO levels exceed a predetermined safe threshold. This alerts occupants to a potential hazard, such as a malfunctioning furnace, blocked chimney, or running car in an attached garage.

CO sensors operate on different principles. Electrochemical sensors are common, utilizing a chemical reaction that generates an electrical current proportional to the CO concentration. Semiconductor sensors, another type, change their electrical resistance in the presence of CO. The sensitivity and accuracy of these sensors can vary depending on their type and quality.

Proper placement, away from direct sources of combustion and areas with poor ventilation, is also important for accurate readings.
