CMYKväriavaruus is a subtractive color model used in color printing. It stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (black). This model is based on the principle that white light, when passing through or reflecting off a surface, has certain wavelengths absorbed by pigments. The remaining wavelengths are then reflected back to the viewer, which is what we perceive as color. In CMYK printing, inks are layered onto a white substrate, such as paper. Cyan ink absorbs red light, magenta absorbs green light, and yellow absorbs blue light. Black ink is included because combining cyan, magenta, and yellow in equal proportions does not produce a pure black, but rather a dark brown. Using black ink allows for richer blacks and also saves on the amount of cyan, magenta, and yellow ink used. The CMYK color model is device-dependent, meaning that the resulting colors can vary depending on the specific inks, paper, and printing equipment used. It is the standard for commercial printing, including magazines, brochures, and packaging, as it directly relates to the physical process of applying ink to paper.
