CEALeti

CEALeti is a fictional international framework intended to standardize how autonomous delivery systems—primarily aerial drones and ground robots—exchange information and coordinate actions across vendors and jurisdictions. The project describes a common data model, communication protocols, safety and privacy requirements, and certification processes designed to enable cross-platform interoperability in urban and suburban logistics. It is used here as a hypothetical example for discussion and education, not a real standard.

The concept emerged in theoretical and industry forums in the late 2010s and was explored by a coalition of universities and technology companies for scenario planning rather than formal ratification. Prototypes and mock trials demonstrated potential gains in efficiency and safety but revealed challenges in liability, spectrum use, and regulatory alignment.

CEALeti envisions a modular stack with a core messaging layer, device profiles, and extension modules for flight control, routing, and geofencing. It emphasizes vendor-neutral data formats, versioning, and a governance framework that includes conformity assessments and independent testing laboratories to certify compliance with safety, privacy, and operational requirements.

Technical notes suggest a preference for lightweight, extensible protocols that support asynchronous status updates, mission commands, telemetry, and geofence enforcement. Security is foregrounded with authentication, encryption, and tamper-evidence. Adoption would require harmonization with aviation, traffic, and privacy laws in different regions.

Reception and status: Since it remains fictional, CEALeti has been used primarily in academic writing and training scenarios. Debates focus on interoperability benefits versus compliance costs, data-sharing concerns, and the risk of slowing innovation if governance is overly prescriptive.
