CCCNs
A Common Core State Standard (CCSS) is a learning standard in mathematics and English language arts/literacy that states what K-12 students should know and be able to do by the end of each grade. These standards were developed by governors and state education commissioners with input from teachers, school administrators, and experts. The goal of the CCSS is to ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared for post-secondary education and careers. The standards are research-based and internationally benchmarked. They are designed to be consistent across states, which allows for easier sharing of best practices and the development of common assessments. The CCSS are not a curriculum, but rather a framework that guides curriculum development. States have the flexibility to adopt or adapt the CCSS. Many states initially adopted the CCSS, but some have since revised or replaced them with their own standards. The development and implementation of the CCSS have been a subject of ongoing discussion and debate within the education community.
