C204

C204 is the internal chassis designation used by Mercedes-Benz for the two-door C-Class Coupé, developed within the W204 generation. The coupe variant was designed to complement the four-door sedan and estate, offering a sportier profile and a more driver-focused experience while sharing most underpinnings with the sedan.

Development and production: The C204 was introduced in 2011 as the coupé counterpart to the W204 sedan. It uses the same platform and most mechanicals but features a shortened wheelbase, distinct bodywork, and suspension tuning aimed at improved rigidity and handling. The model remained in production until the arrival of the next-generation C-Class, after which the coupé moved to the C205 family.

Powertrain and performance: The C204 lineup encompassed turbocharged four- and six-cylinder petrol engines, as well as diesel options, with transmissions typically including a seven-speed automatic. A high-performance C63 AMG Coupé used a 6.2-liter V8 producing about 457 horsepower. Manual transmissions were available only in limited markets and on select early models; most versions relied on automatic gearboxes.

Equipment and design: The interior shared much with the sedan but emphasized a sportier seating position and distinctive two-door styling. Higher trims offered upgraded materials, infotainment, and navigation via Mercedes-Benz COMAND. The C204 also featured Mercedes safety and driver-assistance systems such as ATTENTION ASSIST and PRE-SAFE, with options expanding on active chassis and braking technologies.
