Bøyeprøver

Bøyeprøver, often translated as bending tests, are a fundamental method in materials science and engineering used to evaluate the mechanical properties of a material, particularly its stiffness and strength. The test involves applying a load to a sample of the material, typically a beam or bar, causing it to bend. The amount of deflection under a given load, or the load required to produce a specific deflection, is then measured.

The most common types of bending tests include the three-point bend test and the four-point bend test. In a three-point test, the sample is supported at two points, and the load is applied at a single point in the middle. In a four-point test, the load is applied at two points, creating a region of uniform bending moment between them. These tests are valuable for determining the flexural modulus, which is a measure of a material's resistance to elastic deformation under bending, and the flexural strength, which is the stress at which the material fails in bending.
