It is the Swedish equivalent of the English phrase “building component” and is used both in everyday language and in professional contexts such as construction, architecture, and building regulation.

The concept is central to the way buildings are designed, regulated and maintained. Swedish building regulations, issued by the government agency Boverket, frequently refer to byggnadsdelar when defining responsibilities for wear and tear, fire safety and energy efficiency.
