Bursztynowy is a Polish term that refers to amber, a fossilized tree resin that has been highly valued for its aesthetic and practical properties since ancient times. The word *bursztyn* itself comes from the Proto-Slavic root *bǫrstъ*, meaning "amber," and is widely used across Slavic languages to describe this golden-yellow to deep brown translucent material.

Amber is formed over millions of years when tree resin hardens and becomes fossilized, often trapping insects, plant fragments, or other organic matter within its structure. The most prized varieties, particularly Baltic amber, are known for their clarity and the inclusion of preserved organisms, such as beetles or spiders, which add scientific and historical value. Baltic amber, originating from the Baltic Sea region, is one of the most famous types, prized for its warm hues and durability.
