Bultågsgevär

Bultågsgevär (bolt-action rifle) is a repeating firearm that is loaded and cycled by manually operating a bolt. After firing, the shooter lifts the bolt handle, pulls it back to eject the spent cartridge, then pushes it forward to chamber a new round and rotates the bolt to lock the action. The trigger then releases the hammer or striker to fire. The design relies on a bolt with locking lugs that engage the receiver, providing a strong, rigid action suitable for high-pressure cartridges.

Most bolt-actions feed from a magazine (internal box magazine or detachable unit) or, historically, from stripper clips loaded into a trough that cartridges are pushed into the magazine. Most designs use a rotating bolt; some straight-pull systems lock/unlock by a simpler motion. The accuracy of bolt-action rifles is aided by rigid lockup and precise bore alignment, factors that contribute to predictable handling and consistent shooting performance.

History and examples: bolt-action rifles were developed in the late 19th century and became dominant in military service through World War I and II. Notable examples include the German Mauser 98 and Karabiner 98k, the British Lee-Enfield, the Russian Mosin-Nagant, and the American M1903 Springfield. These rifles influenced many later sporting rifles, and modern hunting and precision rifles frequently use bolt-action configurations.

Today, bolt-action rifles are valued for accuracy, reliability, and longevity. They remain popular for long-range hunting and precision shooting, with a wide range of calibers, stocks, and sights available. The basic bolt-action principle remains one of the most enduring designs in firearm history.
