Buloke

Buloke, scientifically known as Allocasuarina luehmannii, is a species of tree native to Australia. It is a member of the Casuarinaceae family. This distinctive tree is characterized by its slender, drooping branchlets that resemble pine needles, and its rough, fissured bark. Buloke typically grows as a medium to large tree, reaching heights of up to 30 meters. It is well-adapted to arid and semi-arid environments, often found in woodlands and mallee scrub.

The wood of the Buloke tree is known for its exceptional hardness and density, making it highly valued for various purposes. It is one of the hardest timbers in the world, often referred to as "ironwood." Historically, Indigenous Australians utilized the wood for tools and weapons due to its durability. Today, Buloke timber is sought after for flooring, furniture, and decorative items. However, its hardness also makes it challenging to work with.
