Bufferedregistered

Bufferedregistered is a term used in some software systems to describe a pattern in which a data producer can emit events into a buffering layer that is explicitly tied to a consumer through a registration step. In this setup, events are stored in a buffer until a consumer registers interest, at which point the buffered events are delivered and subsequent events flow directly to the consumer.

Operation typically involves a queue or ring buffer that holds events. A registration action associates a specific consumer, callback, or handler with the buffer. If the consumer is not yet registered, new events accumulate. Once registration occurs, a dispatcher drains the buffer and routes events to the consumer, while continuing to enqueue new events. The design may include mechanisms for backpressure and overflow handling to prevent unbounded memory growth.

Applications for bufferedregistered include asynchronous messaging, decoupled component architectures, and streaming data scenarios where producers can proceed before a consumer is ready. It is useful in startup sequences where the producer must not lose early events or where multiple producers must eventually connect to a single consumer.

Design considerations and trade-offs include memory usage, latency, and complexity. A key risk is unbounded growth if registration is delayed or never occurs, which requires strategies such as bounded buffers, eviction policies, timeouts, or dropping policies. Ensuring predictable order and error handling during buffer drain and post-registration delivery are common implementation concerns.
