Bruttium
Bruttium, also known as Brutia, was an ancient region located in the southernmost part of the Italian peninsula. It corresponds to the modern-day Calabria, the "toe" of Italy. The region was inhabited by the Brutti, an Italic people who are believed to have descended from allied Lucanian mercenaries who revolted against the Samnites around the 4th century BCE. The Brutti established their own independent confederation and established their capital at Consentia, modern Cosenza.
