Brushtips

Brushtips are interchangeable, brush-like tips used with a variety of handles and applicators to apply liquids or pigments with a controlled, brush-stroke effect. The tips are designed to emulate the effect of a traditional brush while benefiting from the precision and reusability of modern tools. Brushtips are typically made from synthetic fibers, natural bristles, or hybrid materials, and they are shaped and sized to match different tasks.

Designs range from fine, round tips suitable for fine lines to broad, flat or angled tips for washes or shading. Some brushtips feature a quick-release ferrule or screw-on fitting for rapid tool changes, while others use snap-in cartridges. They may be compatible with markers, pens, airbrush handles, or dispensing units.

Uses span several fields. In art and illustration, brushtips enable brush-like strokes with markers or hybrid tools. In cosmetics engineering, similar tip assemblies are used in makeup applicators for controlled deposition. In laboratory and industrial settings, they can be employed for precise dispensing of small volumes of liquids or adhesives, reducing waste and improving reproducibility.

History and terminology: the term has appeared in maker communities and product catalogs since the late 20th century as modular color and coating tools became more common.
