BruntVäisälä

BruntVäisälä is a research station located in the Antarctic, operated by the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI). It is situated on the Brunt Ice Shelf, approximately 15 kilometers from the coast of Coats Land. The station was established in 1957 and has since played a significant role in meteorological and glaciological research in the region.

The primary objectives of BruntVäisälä include studying the Earth's atmosphere, particularly the ionosphere and aurora, as well as monitoring the behavior of the ice shelf. The station is equipped with various scientific instruments and facilities, such as radars, magnetometers, and a seismograph, which enable researchers to collect data on atmospheric conditions, solar activity, and seismic events.

BruntVäisälä is part of the Finnish Antarctic Research Programme (FINNARP), which aims to advance scientific knowledge and understanding of the Antarctic environment. The station is staffed by a team of researchers and support personnel during the Antarctic summer, typically from November to February. During the winter months, the station is unmanned but continues to operate autonomously, collecting data and providing valuable information to the global scientific community.
