Brouilly

Brouilly is an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) and one of the ten Beaujolais Crus, located in eastern France in the Beaujolais region of the Rhône department. The appellation centers on the Mont Brouilly hill and its surrounding vineyards, producing red wines from the Gamay grape.

The style is red and typically light to medium-bodied, with bright acidity and vivid fruit characters. Common aromas include red berries such as cherry and raspberry, along with floral notes. Brouilly wines are generally consumed young, though some vintages can gain complexity with a few years of aging.

Terroir and viticulture: Vineyards are planted on slopes around Mont Brouilly, where the soils and microclimate impart aromatic intensity and a crisp finish. Winemaking practices vary; most producers favor traditional red-wine fermentation and age in stainless steel or neutral oak to preserve fruit, while a minority may employ small oak to add structure.

Beaujolais Crus are a group of distinct appellations within Beaujolais that are recognized for their terroir-driven red wines. Among them, Brouilly is known for producing fairly approachable, fruit-forward red wines that reflect the hillside terroir, and it sits alongside other crus such as Morgon, Fleurie, and Moulin-à-Vent.
