Borussia

Borussia is a historic name used by several German sports clubs, especially in football. The term derives from Prussia's Latin name, Borussia, and was adopted by clubs in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a symbol of regional pride and identity.

In football, the most prominent clubs bearing the name are Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Dortmund's Ballspielverein Borussia 09, founded in 1909, is one of Germany's most successful clubs, known for its yellow-and-black colors and a European Cup/UEFA Champions League title in 1997, along with multiple domestic titles.

Borussia Mönchengladbach, officially VfL Borussia 1900 Mönchengladbach, was founded in 1900. It rose to prominence in the 1970s, winning several Bundesliga titles and the European Cup in 1975 and 1976. The club is nicknamed Die Fohlen (the Foals).

Other clubs with the Borussia name have existed, including Borussia Neunkirchen from Saarland, a historic club that competed in top divisions in the mid-20th century.
