Borgirs

Borgirs are a fictional ethnic group described in speculative world-building. They are associated with a coastal archipelago and nearby mainland regions, and are noted for a maritime-oriented society, a distinctive language called Borgiri, and a tradition of collective decision-making through village councils.

Core communities are centered on the island chain of Valra and its neighboring isles, with smaller diaspora towns along the mainland coast. In most accounts the Borgir population is portrayed as widely distributed across several towns and villages dependent on fishing and seafaring.

Borgiri is depicted as an agglutinative language with rich morphology and a tendency toward numeral and kinship markers. In many settings it uses a unique script, though some adaptations borrow from neighboring languages.

The historical narratives place Borgirs as descendants of inland traders who migrated to the sea, developing extensive seaborne networks by the medieval period. They are commonly described as maintaining autonomous island communities and negotiating with inland polities through inter-island councils.

Economy and social structure emphasize cooperation and guild-like associations. Traditional crafts include boat-building, weaving, and fish processing, while modern Borgirs may engage in commerce, tourism, and light industry. Leadership tends to be concentrated in elder councils with male and female figures participating.

Architectural and cultural traditions feature stilt houses near harbors, wooden wares, and tide- and harvest-related festivals. The Borgirs are often depicted with distinctive dress and musical traditions using wind instruments and percussion.
