Boomi

Boomi is a cloud-based integration platform as a service (iPaaS) that enables organizations to connect applications, data, and devices across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments. The platform provides application and data integration, API management, workflow automation, and data quality capabilities, delivered through a visual, low-code development environment.

Key components include Boomi AtomSphere, the integration runtime that can run in the cloud or on premises; Boomi Flow for workflow automation; Boomi API Management for API design and security; and Boomi Master Data Hub for master data management. The platform offers a large library of connectors to popular SaaS applications, databases, and legacy systems, facilitating real-time or batch data synchronization and process automation.

Common use cases encompass data integration for mergers and migrations, application integration across cloud and on-premises systems, real-time data synchronization, ERP and CRM integrations, and B2B/EDI workflows. Boomi is designed to support hybrid IT environments and scalable deployment across organizations of various sizes.

History and ownership: Boomi was founded in 2000. Dell Technologies acquired Boomi in 2010 for about $125 million, integrating it into its cloud and application integration portfolio. In 2023, private equity firm Francisco Partners agreed to acquire Boomi from Dell for roughly $4 billion, with the deal closing later that year; Boomi operates as a portfolio company under Francisco Partners with continued development of its iPaaS platform. Boomi competes with other iPaaS providers such as MuleSoft, Informatica, Workato, and Talend.
