Bmodeultraäänitekniikat, often referred to as B-mode ultrasonography or simply B-mode ultrasound, represents a fundamental imaging technique within diagnostic ultrasound. The "B" in B-mode stands for brightness, as the technique displays ultrasound images based on the intensity of the returning echoes. These echoes are generated when ultrasound waves, transmitted into the body, encounter different tissues and structures, reflecting back to a transducer.

In B-mode imaging, a transducer emits a pulse of ultrasound waves and then listens for the returning echoes. The strength of each echo is translated into a dot on the display screen. Brighter dots indicate stronger echoes, typically from denser tissues or structures with a significant change in acoustic impedance. Conversely, weaker echoes, often from fluid-filled areas or very soft tissues, appear as darker dots. The position of the dot corresponds to the depth at which the echo was received.

By rapidly sweeping the ultrasound beam across a region of interest and compiling the resulting echo data, a two-dimensional image is created. This sequential acquisition of data allows for the visualization of anatomical structures, their shapes, sizes, and their relative positions. B-mode ultrasound is widely used for imaging a broad range of organs and tissues, including the abdomen, pelvis, heart, blood vessels, and musculoskeletal system. Its ability to provide real-time, non-invasive, and detailed anatomical information makes it an indispensable tool in modern medical diagnostics.
