Blokkien is a constructed language developed for speculative fiction and online communities. The name combines a block-related root, such as blok, with a common conlang ending to evoke modularity and systems thinking. Blokkien originated as a collaborative project, the Blokkien Initiative, with the aim of providing a regular, approachable means of international communication within technology-oriented storytelling and discussion.

Origins and influences: The language borrows from Dutch, English, and other Germanic and Romance sources, emphasizing regular grammar and predictable morphology. It aims for cross-cultural accessibility and has been documented by volunteers who publish grammar sketches and vocabulary lists.

Phonology and script: Blokkien uses a phoneme inventory of around 18 consonants and 5 vowels, with no tonal contrasts. It favors syllables of the form CV or CVC. The writing system is Latin-based, with a small set of diacritics and digraphs to cover distinct sounds.

Grammar: The language is mostly analytic with a fixed SVO word order. Genders are not marked; the plural is indicated by a suffix such as -en or by numerals. Articles include la for definite and un for indefinite. Adjectives generally follow nouns; verbs use separate particles to mark tense and mood, and negation is achieved with the particle na.

Varieties and usage: A standardized form exists for education and official documentation, while informal varieties circulate in online chats and fan writings. Documentation typically includes a grammar outline, a basic dictionary, and example texts.
