BlokkID

blokkID is a decentralized digital identity framework that lets individuals manage and share verifiable credentials while controlling personal data. It centers on user-owned identifiers called blokkIDs, resolved on compatible blockchains or distributed ledgers and linked to portable credential wallets. The approach aims to align with established standards such as Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and Verifiable Credentials (VCs) from the W3C.

Core components include identity anchors on a blockchain, a blokkID namespace, verifiable credentials issued by trusted authorities, and user-controlled wallets storing keys and credentials. Verification uses verifiable credentials and, if needed, selective disclosure proofs or zero-knowledge proofs to minimize data leakage. Keys are stored in secure hardware or encrypted wallets, with revocation registries to invalidate compromised credentials.

Use cases include academic transcripts, professional licenses, age or eligibility verification, and access control for online services. Because blokkIDs are portable, users can present credentials across platforms without duplicating data or depending on a single issuer.

BlokkID projects emphasize open-source development and interoperability. Adoption depends on alignment with W3C DID/VC standards and participation by issuers, verifiers, and developers. Several reference implementations and SDKs exist to integrate blokkID into existing workflows.

Privacy and security considerations include data minimization, user consent management, and the risk of key loss or device compromise. Performance and scalability depend on the underlying ledger and the efficiency of credential verification.
