Blodslinjer, or bloodlines, is a term used to refer to direct lines of descent from an ancestor. In a genealogical sense it describes the lineage traced through generations of births, marriages and deaths, forming a family tree that connects present-day individuals to their forebears. In genetics, bloodlines can also be discussed in terms of inherited lineages identified through DNA, such as paternal lines inferred from Y-chromosome haplotypes and maternal lines traced via mitochondrial DNA, as well as broader autosomal ancestry that reflects mixed heritage.
