Blockssensors

Blockssensors are a family of compact, modular sensor units intended to be integrated into construction blocks or modular components to enable distributed environmental, structural, and security monitoring. The term combines "block" or "building block" with "sensors," reflecting their intended deployment in block-based systems such as modular walls, bricks, or containerized infrastructure.

Design and capabilities: Each blockssensor typically includes several sensing modalities (temperature, humidity, air quality, vibration, light level, and sometimes gas or moisture). A low-power microcontroller handles local data processing, collection, and event-based alerts. Communication is usually wireless, using protocols such as BLE, Zigbee, Thread, or LPWAN technologies, enabling mesh or star topologies. Many models support energy harvesting (solar) or replaceable batteries to enable long-term deployment without frequent maintenance. Some variants are designed to be embedded during manufacturing, while others are retrofitted into existing blocks.

Data handling: Blockssensors perform edge processing to filter noise, detect anomalies, and timestamp measurements before sending summarized data to an edge gateway or cloud platform. Security features such as encryption and device authentication are commonly emphasized to protect collected information.

Applications: They are used in smart buildings and campuses, infrastructure health monitoring for bridges and walls, agricultural environments with modular growing blocks, and security monitoring in sensitive facilities.
