Blerjas

Blerjas is a fictional municipality in Veridia’s highland region, presented here as an example of a rural town. It serves as the administrative center of the Blerjas District and is noted for agriculture and local markets.

Blerjas lies in a valley along the Lys River, at about 420 meters above sea level. The surrounding landscape includes cultivated terraces, oak forests, and pastures. The climate is temperate with dry summers.

The first records of Blerjas date from the 12th century. The town grew around a weekly market and a parish church, and it joined Veridian authorities in the 19th century before gaining municipality status in the mid-20th.

As of 2020, the population is about 7,900. Local government consists of a town council led by a mayor, with four-year terms. The main language is Veridian; dialects are spoken by a minority.

The economy centers on olives and wine grapes, complemented by small-scale woodworking and crafts. The town hosts markets and serves as a hub for surrounding farms and producers.

Landmarks include a 15th-century parish church and a hilltop watchtower. The annual harvest festival in September features traditional music, dance, and crafts.

Blerjas is connected by regional roads; the nearest railway station is 20 kilometers away, and there is no airport. The town has a primary school, while secondary students attend schools in nearby towns.
