Blegens

Blegens is a fictional town and local government district in the Veridia region. It lies on the Lorne River, covers about 46 square kilometers, and has an estimated population of 11,800. The surrounding landscape comprises farmland, deciduous woodland, and wetlands that support migratory birds. The name is said to originate from the medieval Blegen family, who held land near the river bend during the early settlement.

Founded in the mid-13th century, Blegens developed as a river port and agricultural center. A town charter granted in the 15th century formalized self-government, and the arrival of the Northrail railway in 1898 spurred growth in trade and industry. The town hall, completed in 1905, remains a civic landmark. In modern times, Blegens has preserved a compact historic core with several timber-framed buildings.

Its economy combines agriculture (dairy and cereals), forestry, and light manufacturing. The weekly Blegens Market on Sundays is a regional hub for local produce. Cultural life centers on the Lorne River Festival in late summer and the autumn harvest fair. The town supports primary and secondary education, a public library, and a small hospital. Local architecture includes the Old Town Hall and the riverside quay.

Blegens is governed by a 12-member municipal council elected every four years. The district includes a protected wetland reserve, Rook's Marsh, important for birdlife and flood management. Transport links include a regional rail stop and bus services connecting neighboring towns.
