Biokompostointi
Biokompostointi, often translated as biocomposting, is a biological process that breaks down organic waste materials into a nutrient-rich soil amendment called compost. This decomposition is primarily carried out by microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, and actinomycetes, as well as larger organisms like earthworms and insects. The process requires a balance of key ingredients: carbon-rich materials (browns) like dried leaves, straw, and paper, and nitrogen-rich materials (greens) such as food scraps, grass clippings, and manure. Adequate moisture and aeration are also crucial for efficient decomposition.
The primary goal of biokompostointi is to reduce the volume of organic waste sent to landfills, thereby
