Biofysiikassa

Biofysiikassa is the Finnish term for biophysics. Biophysics is an interdisciplinary science that employs the methods of physics to study biological phenomena. It seeks to understand the fundamental physical principles that govern the structure, function, and interactions of biological molecules, cells, tissues, and organisms. Biophysical research spans a vast range of scales, from the molecular level, where it investigates the physics of DNA, proteins, and cell membranes, to macroscopic levels, examining biomechanics, sensory perception, and the behavior of entire ecosystems.

Key areas of biophysics include the study of biological membranes and transport, protein folding and function, nucleic acid structure and dynamics, bioenergetics, biomechanics, neuroscience, and systems biology. Biophysicists often use techniques such as X-ray crystallography, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, fluorescence microscopy, single-molecule techniques, and computational modeling to probe biological systems. The field bridges the gap between physics and biology, contributing significantly to our understanding of life processes and driving innovation in areas like drug discovery, medical imaging, and the development of biomaterials.
