Biodiiselit

Biodiiselit is a renewable fuel derived from vegetable oils or animal fats. It is chemically similar to petrodiesel but is produced from organic sources. The production process typically involves transesterification, where triglycerides from the oil or fat react with an alcohol, usually methanol, in the presence of a catalyst. This process yields fatty acid methyl esters, which constitute biodiesel, and glycerol as a byproduct.

Biodiiselit can be used in diesel engines, either in its pure form (B100) or blended with petrodiesel in various percentages, such as B5 (5% biodiesel, 95% petrodiesel) or B20. Its use is promoted as an alternative to fossil fuels due to its potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on petroleum. Biodiesel is biodegradable and generally has lower sulfur content than petrodiesel.

The feedstock used for biodiesel production can include a variety of sources such as soybean oil, rapeseed oil, palm oil, waste cooking oil, and animal tallow. The sustainability of biodiesel is often debated, with concerns raised about land use, deforestation, and competition with food production depending on the chosen feedstock. Engine compatibility and performance can also be factors, as biodiesel has different properties such as viscosity and energy content compared to petrodiesel.
