Bindehautveränderung

Bindehautveränderung refers to any alteration or abnormality of the conjunctiva, the thin transparent membrane that covers the outer surface of the eye and lines the inner surface of the eyelids. These changes can manifest in various ways and are often indicative of underlying conditions.

Common types of Bindehautveränderung include inflammation, known as conjunctivitis, which can be caused by viral, bacterial, or allergic factors. Symptoms typically involve redness, itching, tearing, and discharge. Other changes can involve the growth of abnormal tissue, such as pterygium, a fleshy growth that extends from the conjunctiva onto the cornea, or pinguecula, a yellowish deposit on the conjunctiva. These growths are often associated with prolonged exposure to sunlight, wind, or dust.

Trauma to the eye can also lead to Bindehautveränderung, resulting in subconjunctival hemorrhage, a bright red patch on the white of the eye caused by bleeding under the conjunctiva. Dry eye syndrome can cause the conjunctiva to become irritated and inflamed. Certain systemic diseases can also have ocular manifestations, affecting the conjunctiva. Diagnosis of Bindehautveränderung involves a physical examination of the eye, and sometimes further tests like cultures or biopsies are performed to determine the cause. Treatment depends on the specific condition and may include topical medications, environmental modifications, or surgical intervention in some cases.
