Bildbereich

Bildbereich is a German term used in photography, optics and imaging to denote the area of an image that is captured, produced or displayed. It refers to the rectangular region of interest that forms the image as created by the lens, sensor or display.

In photography and cinematography, the Bildbereich corresponds to the image frame or the portion of the scene that ends up in the final image. It is closely related to concepts such as Bildformat (aspect ratio) and Bildausschnitt (crop). The size and shape of the Bildbereich are influenced by the lens field of view, sensor size, and any cropping or digital zoom applied during capture or post-processing.

In digital imaging and sensor technology, the term can describe the active sensor area that contributes to the recorded image. Parts outside the Bildbereich may be vignetted, masked, or simply not illuminated. In image processing, an analogous concept is the region of interest (ROI), which is selected for further analysis or manipulation within a larger image.

In display contexts, the Bildbereich can refer to the portion of an image that is shown on a screen or printed area. Display scaling, overscan, and clipping can alter the effective Bildbereich that the viewer perceives.
