Bhima

Bhima, also known as Vrikodara, is a prominent figure in the Indian epic Mahabharata. He is one of the five Pandava brothers, the son of Kunti and the wind god, Vayu, and thus the half-brother of Yudhishthira, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sahadeva. His name is commonly translated as "wolf-bellied" or "bear-like" for his exceptional strength and appetite.

Bhima is renowned for physical prowess and martial skill. He defeats the demon Bakasura as a child, and later plays a leading role in the Pandavas' exile, taking part in many trials and adventures. During the exile he marries Hidimbi and sires Ghatotkacha. After the exile, he becomes a military leader for the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra War, slaying numerous Kaurava warriors and contributing to their victory. In the epic, Draupadi is the shared wife of the five Pandavas, including Bhima.

Following the war, the Pandavas rule briefly and then retire to the Himalayas. In the Mahabharata’s final journey, Bhima dies during the ascent to heaven, leaving behind a name associated with strength, courage, and loyalty in Indian tradition.
